Looking for a surveillance system? Have you noticed a lot of companies getting into selling surveillance systems? How would you know you are getting the right surveillance system for the job? In order to answer this question lets simplify the process into a couple basic steps. The first step when looking for a system is to survey the area of where you what the surveillance system installed. Look to see if the sun shines in the path of where you want the camera. Check around for lighting at night. Write down what you have surveyed, it may seem frivolous but it does come in handy when you start looking for a surveillance system.
Now cameras, they are an important part of the surveillance system. Keep in mind all cameras are not alike. You will see why it is a good idea to do a little homework before purchasing a surveillance system. If you are thinking of an off the shelf system, read the specification on what the camera is capable of. Every Camera has a lens and this lens will view the area that you previously surveyed. So if you want to view a lobby and the sun shines in the window part of the day, that camera will need to accommodate what is called back lighting. Make sure it will view day/night or have the viewing range to capture the area that you are looking to view. I can't stress this enough, read the paper work on the product before you put your hard earned money on the table.
The second step would be the type of recorder. A recording device would be the bulk of the price of the system. So take your time and check out the many types of recording devices that are available. If you are thinking of using a VHS recorder, think again. Those recorders, like the tapes, will become obsolete. DVR recorders would be the way to go. Just about everyone uses them and they have become very user friendly. If you know how many cameras you are going to use, this will determine the size of the DVR you will need. Look for at least an 80 GB which would record approximately 24 days if using 4 cameras as a time lapse recorder. If the DVR says it's a triplex make sure it's a true triplex; record, playback and network while still recording. A built-in CD-RW drive and USB ports will allow for fast and effective video clip copying. In order to operate and manage the system remotely you will need the DVR to have networking capabilities (LAN & ADSL). Once you have looked at where to place the camera and the type of recorder, can you start exploring the vast work of surveillance systems.

Internal Home CCTV - Best Answer Top Points?
Our home has been the target of many burglaries over the years, and so now we are taking a stand. I am purchasing CCTV for the interior of my home, but I need advice. My options are
- Night vision camera for entrance to capture faces with DVR.
- 2 Night vision cameras for the entrance and bedroom with DVR.
They will be miniature CCTV cameras, so they are not easily noticed, and stolen. The DVR and monitor will be in the Master Bedroom, Recording 24/7. I am wanting to fo for the 1 camera idea for the door. Otherwise, I'd be a little creeped out!

Most IR cameras will not give you good images as night as they use poor quality sensors thar are not designed to work with IR so the images are so grainy they are practicably useless in most cases.
